More than 60 Mothers Celebrated Their Pending Births at the Semi-annual Event!
Twice a year, the staff of Clinica Santa Maria hosts an invite-only baby shower for their expecting patients, and most recently, the staff celebrated on May 14, 2015.
The sixth “Celebrating Mom” event “was the best ever for our staff,” said JoAnn Gorby, clinical site manager. “These events take many people to pull it off, and from planning to food prep, to set up, to clean up. We are so proud of our staff for helping with this event each time.”
This event was not only fun, but also educational for the families. Community partner agencies, including the Kent County Health Department, car seat safety technicians and Safe Haven ministries, all attended to educate the mothers on available resources.
New learnings still happen at each event for the staff, including an elderly patient who wanted to help with the event. During the night, she sat in a corner, reading to the children.
“It was a blessing for the moms, so they could pay more attention to the presentations without their children accompanying them,” said Gorby.
This simple act sparked a thought for the staff: maybe they can think of ways to link young patients to the older ladies, simply for support.
“Each time we host “Celebrando a Mama,” we learn something or have another avenue to explore,” said Gorby.
The clinic will host another event in the fall of 2015 for expectant mothers.
