Kari Tubbs, whose hair reaches mid-way down her back, had her long locks sheared to a buzz cut at the Personal Care Area to show support for a family member undergoing cancer treatment. The hair shaving occurred on September 30, at the Personal Care Area in Mercy Health Lacks Cancer Center. Cheri Hulst, Personal Care Coordinator, donated her time to fulfill Tubbs’ wish. Tubbs will maintain this short ‘do throughout the entire month of October: breast cancer awareness month.
According to Tubbs: “I have watched my family member go through extensive treatment over the past year, and I really wanted to support her in some way. I have received such warm support from family and co-workers that I am excited to do this.”
She had her daughter and goddaughter witness and even participate in her head being shaved. Mlive also was present to report on the story:
From July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013, the Personal Care Area has performed 620 mastectomy fittings , and assisted 654 clients with salon services including: manicures, pedicures, wig consults, haircuts, hair wash, and helping walk-ins with questions. The area rendered 1,274 services to patients in total that year.
