And the Winner Is…
Saint Mary’s Foundation announces that the Grand Girlfriends, an all-women donor group, has awarded the Comprehensive Breast Center in Grand Rapids $10,000 to provide mammograms and high-risk assessments for the underserved. According to CDC statistics, for every 100,000 persons in Michigan, an average of 490 are diagnosed with cancer and 197 die from it. Death from breast cancer has declined 20% over the past decade due to screening initiatives.
The goal of this program is to provide breast imaging and high-risk assessments, the most financially burdensome of diagnostic procedures, to underserved women.
“Even with the Affordable Care Act becoming law in January, we still have women who are uninsured and in need at the Comprehensive Breast Center,” said Carole Gentry, manager of the Comprehensive Breast Center in Grand Rapids. “We are very grateful for this funding, as it aligns with our mission to serve the underserved, and will be put to good use by our patients.”
Each year, the Grand Girlfriends awards monies to Mercy Health Saint Mary’s initiatives that focus on women’s health initiatives. If you would like to find out more about becoming a Grand Girlfriend, please click here>>
