Julie Deppen, nurse on 8 Main, signs the DAISY Banner after her surprise ceremony. Deppen is credited for making a patient more comfortable after a wardrobe alteration to accommodate for equipment.

Deppen was nominated by one of the patients that she has provided cared for. The patient explained the amount of thoughtfulness and compassion that Deppen displayed toward her after witnessing her discomfort after a procedure. After commenting about the discomfort the hospital gown was causing her, Deppen provided the patient with a set of scrubs that she had altered to accommodate the necessary monitors. The patient was much more comfortable after this simple change, and explained how grateful she was to have a nurse who could make such a difficult time so much easier.

The family of J. Patrick Barnes created the DAISY Foundation with the intent to recognize nurses that have made a significant difference in their patients’ lives. Deppen has certainly exhibited the qualities an honoree of the DAISY award should possess.

Congratulations again to Julie Deppen!
