Drawing more than 160 nurses from across Michigan, the 2016 Nursing Symposium held on Tuesday, May 10, boasted the presentation of living nurse legend, Dr. Jean Watson.

Watson’s nursing theory of human caring frames the professional practice model at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s. At the symposium, Watson discussed how her theory of human caring can be used to transform both self and system. Attendees used experiential learning and intellectual experiences to create and share how her theory can be applied in everyday nursing life.

Also presenting was Mercy Health’s Tara Nichols, on how to apply Watson’s theory of human caring to patients who are experiencing discomfort or pain. Nurses earned 7.5 contact hours for continuing education. Thanks to the education council, led by Theresa McGuire, for organizing the event, and thanks to the vendors who also supported the event.

Stay tuned information about the 2017 nursing symposium!
