Founded in 1964 as the Doran Foundation for Medical Education, today the Saint Mary’s Foundation celebrates 50 years of making a significant impact on community health by dedicating a new office space that bears the name of long-time donors John and Marie Canepa on May 15, 2014.

Since its inception, Saint Mary’s Foundation has awarded more than $65 million to transformational projects, programs and services, including capital efforts for the Lacks Cancer Center, the Hauenstein Neurosciences Center and Sophia’s House.

As part of the celebration on May 15, at 11:30 a.m., donors, Foundation Board members, the Foundation’s up next group and hospital administration were invited to attend a dedication and blessing of the new office space, located at 307 Jefferson Ave. SE.

Foundation President Jud Lynch opened the dedication ceremony by remarking:

“The most important thank you goes to two individuals who have been avid supporters and such loyal friends to Mercy Health – John and Marie Canepa. Since the 1970s when John served on the Board of Trustees for the hospital, they have been supportive of every single initiative from our Wege Institute for Mind Body and Spirit, Lacks Cancer Center, Hauenstein Neuroscience Center, and Sophia’s House. When we looked around our campus, it became apparent that no building bears the name of Canepa…and that just didn’t seem right.”

After the new name was unveiled on the exterior signage, Michelle Rabideau, President of Saint Mary’s Foundation thanked everyone for coming and extended open tours for the group. Rabideau also extended her warm thanks to John and Marie Canepa: “You know how special you are to Saint Mary’s. We couldn’t be happier to have a building now on our campus with your name.”
