Nurses in professional development from all over the state attended a Michigan Nursing Professional Development (MNPD) conference co-hosted by Mercy Health Saint Mary’s on May 22, 2015. Joy Vanlier, RN, JD, from Risk Management, and Cindy Boer, JD, Area Claims Manager for Trinity Health IRMS for West Michigan, each presented to this 35-member group about the legal issues that professional development specialists might face.
Michigan Nursing Professional Development is an affiliate of the Association for Nursing Professional Development. It is the official organization for and in support of all educators in health care settings throughout the mid-Michigan region.
“This was the first conference for MNPD,” said Theresa Heindlmeyer, MSN, RN-BC, who serves as president for the organization, and as Magnet Coordinator for Mercy Health Saint Mary’s. “We were very excited to host it onsite at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, and I was very grateful to our legal experts who shared our best practices in the legal arena with other nursing professionals from around the state.”
Titled, Legal Issues Affecting Nurses in Professional Development, the conference was designed to provide strategies to mitigate legal issues affecting educators who are involved in the growth and development of clinical staff.
